From Unboxing to Your
First Live Feed

6 min read Beginner friendly EarlyVigil Support Team

Connect your first edge device and cameras in about fifteen minutes, no port forwarding or static IP required.

What's in the box

Every edge device ships ready to connect, no license dongle, no software to install. You'll need about fifteen minutes and access to your router.

Edge device

Lite, Pro or Enterprise, depending on your plan.

Power adapter

Regional plug, pre-fitted for your country.

Ethernet cable

For the initial wired connection to your router.

Quick-start card

Your device's claim code and setup QR.

Three steps to your first live view

01
Power the device and connect it to your router with the supplied ethernet cable.
02
Claim it on app.earlyvigil.com with the QR code from your quick-start card.
03
Add your cameras, auto-discovered or entered manually, and go live.

Step by step

Step 1 · Power and network

Connect the edge device to your router with the supplied cable, then plug in power. The LED pulses amber while it boots, then turns solid blue once online, usually 60–90 seconds.

No port forwarding, static IP, or router configuration needed, the device reaches the cloud outbound only.

Step 2 · Create your account and claim the device

Go to app.earlyvigil.com and create an account, or sign in if your installer already set one up. Choose Add a site, then scan the QR code on your quick-start card (or enter the claim code manually). Give the site a name, for example "Main Store" or "Warehouse A".

Step 3 · Add your cameras

Cameras on the same network as the edge device are usually auto-discovered if they support ONVIF, the device lists them by IP address and model, and you add each with a couple of taps.

For cameras that aren't auto-discovered, add the RTSP URL manually. Analog cameras connect via the BNC encoder inputs on Pro and Enterprise devices, no separate DVR needed.

Step 4 · First live view and recording

Open Live View in the dashboard to confirm each camera is streaming. Then set a recording mode per camera, continuous, motion-triggered, or scheduled, and choose a cloud retention window. Recording starts immediately; there's nothing else to configure to get protected footage.

Most installs go from box to first live feed in under fifteen minutes. If a camera doesn't show up within a minute, it's almost always a network issue.

Quick troubleshooting

Camera not auto-discovered

Confirm the camera is on the same network as the edge device and that ONVIF is enabled. Otherwise, add it manually with its RTSP URL.

LED stays amber

Amber for more than two minutes usually means no internet reachability. Check the router connection and that port 443 isn't blocked.

Live view is slow to load

The stream adapts to available bandwidth automatically. On a slow connection, the first frame can take a few extra seconds.
